IoT (Internet of Things) has been around since the 1990s and is becoming increasingly popular with small device makers. Small devices have become so inexpensive to manufacture and develop that anyone can now create these electronic brainy gadgets.Most of them connect to the internet via WiFi or Bluetooth. These small devices help us automate our lives and control appliances remotely without having to get out of bed. And they make our lives easier!

In the last decade, though, the technology behind IoT has taken off exponentially, making it much cheaper to purchase IoT sensors online than ever before. You’ll find IoT sensors being sold almost anywhere, including on Amazon, Alibaba, eBay, and AliExpress. Most IoT devices use WiFi connectivity to connect to the internet. Sometimes they require a physical connection to do so. But many also offer both options.

The IoT Technology:

The technology behind IoT has grown in leaps and bounds over the years. There is no one standard operating system for IoT devices. Instead, each manufacturer creates its own proprietary software and hardware systems. As a result, some IoT devices don’t work together at all. In fact, some manufacturers even create two different versions of their IoT devices to cater to different markets.

So what does IoT mean? Well, basically, IoT means connecting everything to the internet. Everything! The list goes on and on, from home automation systems to cameras, thermostats to doorbells, fitness trackers to smart watches.

You probably hear about people spending thousands of dollars to buy a fancy automated house. But the reality is that not everyone can afford that kind of investment. That doesn’t stop homes with smart home automation systems from helping us save money and time every day. Today’s smart home automation systems are capable of controlling lights, heating and cooling, blinds, curtains, security cameras, TVs, etc., all from one app. You can turn off the lights as soon as you enter. Turn down the temperature once you’re inside. Set timers for the lights to switch on automatically when you leave. Then check yourself in on Facebook while you’re away. What could be easier? We live easier.

2. Smart fitness trackers

Fitness trackers have become incredibly popular over the past few years, with millions of people purchasing them. Many of them are designed to measure steps, distance walked, calories burned, sleep cycles, heart rate, blood pressure, and other metrics. The best fitness trackers available today allow users to upload data directly to the cloud, where they can then view reports, analyse trends, and create personalised recommendations. A typical user may set goals like “walk 10,000 steps” and get feedback on how close he was to meeting his goal. If he did meet his goal, he would know exactly how many steps he had taken. He could even compare himself to other users who have similar goals.

3. Smart watches

Watches are still big business for tech companies. It is estimated that smartwatch sales alone exceeded $35 billion globally.In 2017, the industry is predicted to be worth $2.9 billion. They’re getting smaller and smarter. Google released its first watch, called the Pixel Watch, back in October 2016. Apple followed suit a year later with the release of the Apple Watch Series 2. They’re offering premium features like always-on displays, GPS tracking, and longer battery lives. Some feature smart notifications so you can receive calls, texts, and emails right on your wrist. Others tell you the weather outside or the current song playing.
